1.0 INTRODUCTION
_____ has established the following guidelines to identify and control potential hazards that may be associated with abrasive blasting operations and to comply with 29 CFR 1910.94 in regards to ventilation, personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe abrasive blasting operations.
2.0 SCOPE
This section applies to all _____ operating units.
3.0 DEFINITIONS
All abrasive blasting terms are used in accordance with Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) 29 CFR 1910.94.
4.0 REQUIREMENTS
Specific requirements apply to all blasting operations in Blasting Cabinets, Blasting Booths, and Open Air Blasting. Employees will comply with all safety requirements. _____ will ensure all ventilation and safety requirements are satisfied. All employees in the vicinity of blasting operations will be provided appropriate protection required from monitoring (e.g., hearing, eye, respiratory, etc.).
5.0 GENERAL SAFETY
A competent person will inspect the area before abrasive blasting operations begin and will designate precautions to be followed from the resulting dust. Abrasives and the surface materials blasted are shattered and pulverized during blasting operations. The media formed will contain particulate that could result in certain hazards (i.e., respiratory, eye, fire, and explosion hazards). Employees must evaluate the potential health hazards from abrasive blasting operations by knowing the composition and toxicity of the abrasives and surfaces being abraded. All cables, leads, and hoses will be suspended overhead whenever possible to prevent accidental damage, slips, trips, and falls.
