1.0 PURPOSE

These guidelines have been developed to assure the safety and health of _____ personnel who must enter confined spaces to perform work. Because of the seriousness of the potential for safety or health hazards, these are very stringent guidelines which must be adhered to at all times.

This procedure is intended to comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulation 29 CFR 1910.146 – Permit-Required Confined Spaces, 29 CFR 1926 Subpart AA – Confined Spaces in Construction, and 29 CFR 1910.134 – Respiratory Protection.

2.0 SCOPE

_____ does not have any confined spaces at any of their facilities. This procedure applies to all _____ employees who are assigned to enter confined spaces at client locations or for those who act as Entry Supervisors or Attendants during confined space entry.

3.0 DEFINITIONS AND ACRONYMS

Attendant – An individual trained in attendant responsibilities, confined space hazards, and emergency procedures that must remain on the outside of the confined space, guard against unauthorized entry, maintain communication with and monitor the authorized entrants inside.

Authorized Entrant - An employee who is properly trained and authorized by the employer to enter a permit space.

Confined Space – A space that:

  • Is large enough and so configured that an employee can bodily enter and perform assigned work; and
  • Has limited or restricted means for entry or exit; and
