1.0 INTRODUCTION

These guidelines have been developed to assure the safety and health of _____ personnel who must work with lead or lead containing material to perform work. Because of the seriousness of the potential for safety or health hazards, these are very stringent guidelines which must be adhered to at all times.

2.0 SCOPE

This Lead Awareness Program establishes safe procedures for _____ employees who are assigned to work directly with lead or with equipment or materials that have been contaminated with lead during the course of their duties.

3.0 PURPOSE

The Lead Awareness Program has been established by _____ to protect employees from occupational exposure to lead. This program is designed to provide a safe and healthful workplace, to satisfy the requirements of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)’s 29 CFR 1910.1025 Occupational Exposure to Lead, and to reduce exposures to or below the permissible limits set forth in this standard.

4.0 DEFINITIONS

Action Level - Employee exposure to an airborne concentration of lead of 30 micrograms per cubic meter of air (30 ug/m3) averaged over an 8-hour period.

Designated Changing Area - A specific area just outside of the Lead Regulated Area where contaminated PPE shall be removed after exiting, and clean PPE shall be put on prior to entering, the Lead Regulated Area.

Exposure Sampling - Samples of the air that are representative of an employee’s work area that show what chemical contaminants are present and at what levels.
