1.0 PURPOSE
The purpose of this procedure is to provide instructions for the safe operation of Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT) and to prevent accidents, injuries, property damage, or damaged products that may be caused by improper or unsafe use of powered industrial trucks or as a result of inadequate training.
This procedure is intended to comply with 29 CFR 1910.178 – Powered Industrial Trucks.
2.0 SCOPE
This procedure applies to all _____ employees and contractor operations that use powered industrial trucks.
3.0 DEFINITIONS AND ACRONYMS
Grade – The slope of a surface, which is usually measured as the number of feet of rise or fall over a hundred foot horizontal distance (the slope is expressed as a percent).
PIT – Powered Industrial Truck – Any mobile power-propelled truck used to carry, push, pull, lift, stack or tier materials. Examples include: forklifts, powered walk behind stackers, powered pallet jacks, tractors, and motorized hand truck.
